Almost 200 surfers will catch waves this month in the city’s 30th annual Summer Surf Contest on Sept. 23 and 24.
The two-day event starts at 6:45 a.m. both days on the southern side of the Huntington Beach Pier at Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway. It runs until 3 p.m., with awards presented Sept. 24.
Last year, more than 200 spectators turned out for the event, sponsored by Community Services Department and the Huntington Surf and Sport store, to watch the boarders compete for $5,000 in prizes and trophies offered for first- through sixth-place finishers, city officials said.
Katie May Plummer, Miss Huntington Beach 2000, and her court will present the awards, and all participants will receive free dinners from a local restaurant.
