Dragnet Mounted for Escaped Paraguayans
Authorities were searching for two men suspected in the killing of Paraguay’s former vice president who overpowered a guard and walked out the main entrance of Buenos Aires’ police headquarters. Luis Alberto Rojas and Fidencio Vego Barrios, who were awaiting extradition to Paraguay, were arrested in Buenos Aires in February in connection with the March 23, 1999, assassination of Paraguayan Vice President Luis Maria Argana. Officials believe that the men were acting on orders from Lino Oviedo, a former Paraguayan army chief of staff who is under arrest in Brazil.
