Russia and Spain Move Into Semifinals

Russia, ranked second in the world, played with blinding speed Tuesday to defeat Slovenia, 33-22, in the quarterfinals of the Olympic team handball tournament at Sydney.
In the second quarterfinal Tuesday, Spain scored a superb goal in the last 10 seconds to beat Germany, 27-26, and advance to the semifinals, prompting wild scenes of jubilation.
Gold medal favorite Sweden, the world and European champion and unbeaten so far in the Sydney Games, will play Egypt, and Yugoslavia will play France in other quarterfinal games.
Slovenia was making its first appearance in an Olympic handball tournament. It can still finish as high as fifth.
