Vanguard Sweeps Softball Doubleheader From CSUSB

Nikki Benning singled in the game-winning run in the sixth inning and Celina Camarillo retired all 13 batters she faced in relief as Vanguard completed a sweep of host Cal State San Bernardino, 6-5, in a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday. Vanguard won the opener, 3-0.
The Lions (24-14) trailed, 5-3, in the sixth inning of the second game when Andrea Saucedo greeted San Bernardino reliever Elizabeth Catron with a two-run triple to tie the score. Benning promptly singled home Saucedo with the game-winning run.
In the opener, Gina Liebengood pitched her seventh shutout of the season. Liebengood (13-7) allowed five hits and walked one. Saucedo had a run-scoring single.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Cypress 5, Orange Coast 0--Diana Woodward pitched a three-hitter for host Cypress (24-13, 11-5) with two strikeouts and two walks. Melissa Oroz had three hits and two runs scored.
Meredith Miles of Orange Coast stole her 25th base of the season and set a school record with 41 stolen bases.
In nonconference baseball:
Chapman 10, La Verne 1--Mike Carey struck out 10 and pitched his fourth complete game of the season for Chapman (23-6). Kyle Schoonover had three hits and three RBIs for the Panthers.
