* Classical--New West Symphony concertmistress Elizabeth Pitcairn will make her solo debut with the orchestra when its season continues April 20-21, performing Mendelssohn’s romantic Violin Concerto. The program will also feature Weber’s overture to “Oberon” and Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra. April 20, 8 p.m.: Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Kavli Theatre, 2100 E. * Jazz--The 20-piece Societe swing band will appear at the Ventura High School auditorium to stage the same program performed at Benny Goodman’s legendary 1938 Carnegie Hall concert. The April 21 fund-raiser will also include a performance by Cabrillo Middle School’s Perseverance Hall Jass Band, an ensemble featuring 10- to 14-year-old musicians. * Words--The Ojai Valley Library Friends and Foundation will present the fifth annual Ojai “Shorts” on April 21 at 8 p.m. at the Matilija School auditorium, 703 El Paseo Road, Ojai. Actors from the Ojai area will read light literary selections. Performers: Peter Bellwood, Dwier Brown, Kim Maxwell-Brown, Leigh Curran, John Diehl, Robert Krimmer, James Lashly, Doug Motel, Peter Strauss and others. * Cultural Festival--Cal Lutheran University will present its 28th annual Scandinavian Festival at Kingsman Park, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks.
