L.A. Film Fest to Begin Friday

The Independent Feature Project/West presents the Los Angeles Film Festival, a program of 36 feature films at the Directors Guild of America, Harmony Gold Preview House, the Sunset 5 and the Los Angeles Film School, all on Sunset Boulevard within a short distance from each other.
The festival opens Friday at the DGA at 7:30 p.m. with “Sidewalks of New York” and concludes April 28 with Allison Anders’ “Things Behind the Sun,” in which a music journalist is assigned to write a profile of a Janis Joplin-like singer-songwriter. A highlight of the festival will be the presentation of three films that director Ang Lee has cited as having inspired his Oscar-winning “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” Presented in the festival’s closing weekend in association with the UCLA Film Archive, they are the King Hu classic, “A Touch of Zen” (1971), Patrick Tam’s “The Sword” (1980) and Wong Fei-Hong’s “Iron Monkey” (1993).
There will be four programs devoted to shorts, two programs to high school videos and three to music videos, plus many other events and seminars.
