Collision With Whale Damages Navy Frigate

A U.S. Navy frigate apparently struck a whale during a training exercise off the coast of Solana Beach and had to return to shore for repairs, a spokesman for the Third Fleet said Tuesday.
The whale did not appear to be injured, Commander Chuck McWhorter said.
Inspection revealed damage to the ship’s sonar system.
