American Gold Star Pilgrimage to Vietnam
A few months ago, you printed a community interest article about our local American Gold Star Mothers (and dads), and their desire to make a pilgrimage to Vietnam to see where their sons fought and died. I want to thank the county residents who responded so generously and contributed to this worthy cause. As a result, the effort has been fully funded, and the pilgrimage is set to begin this fall.
Donations came in from virtually every area of Ventura County and the surrounding area.
The short notes and personal letters accompanying the donations were just as touching as the funds. They spoke of the deep gratitude for all veterans and their families, and of the enormous sacrifices willingly made, and of the communities that have grown to appreciate all that America means.
I would also like to thank those of you who were unable to contribute but who sent well-wishes and prayers for these great American patriots, who simply ask for good health long enough to make one last long trip together to pay honor to the memories of their fallen sons. In October, when the plane carrying these American heroes lifts off, we send with them the warmth of a grateful nation.
