Ridley-Thomas Replaces Holden on Council Panel

Los Angeles City Council President Alex Padilla agreed Wednesday to a request by Councilman Nate Holden to replace Holden on the council’s Housing and Economic Development Committee with Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas.
The decision ends a public dispute over Padilla’s initial decision to leave the council’s three African American members off two key committees that deal with housing and development programs.
Padilla last week appointed Holden and Councilwoman Jan Perry to the committees, but Holden later said Ridley-Thomas would be best to serve on the housing panel.
Padilla complied with Holden’s request, saying in a letter to the city clerk that “this committee is significant to the goals of this council.”
