Biofem Suspect’s Aide Pleads to Gun Charges

An aide to an Irvine scientist suspected of masterminding a scheme to kill his business partner pleaded guilty Friday to possessing and transporting illegal weapons.
Valerie Kesler, 38, was sentenced to three years’ probation, prosecutors said.
Kesler worked with Larry C. Ford, co-founder of Biofem Inc., who authorities suspect was behind last year’s failed attempt to kill the firm’s chief executive, James Patrick Riley. Ford later killed himself.
During a probe of the shooting, police said they found two illegal assault weapons at Kesler’s home and in her car.
