Hollans Helps Trojans Beat Cal

Aisha Hollans scored 19 points and Jessica Cheeks added a career-high 16 as USC handed California its sixth consecutive loss, 69-53, in a Pacific 10 women’s game at Berkeley.

Hollans, a guard from Berkeley, made only eight of 23 shots but contributed a career-high 14 rebounds as the Trojans (7-5, 3-0 Pac-10) won for the fifth time in six games.

USC held a 50-29 edge in rebounding, including 14 from sophomore center Eboni Hoffman, who also had 13 points.

Cal got a career-high 17 points from LaTasha O’Keith and 16 points by Ami Forney.

The Bears (4-6, 0-3) went on an 8-0 run midway through the second half to close to 49-47. But Hollans led a 10-2 run with five points and four rebounds as the Trojans pulled out to a 59-49 lead with 6:15 left.

Hollans’ previous rebound high was 10. She ranks eighth in the conference, averaging 6.5 a game. By dominating the boards, USC took 25 more shots than the Bears.

The Bears played without their second-leading scorer, Leigh Gregory, who has a knee injury.
