More Crosswalk Stings Could Save Pedestrians

Re “Invention Could Mean New Rules of the Road,” Dec. 13.
More environmentally friendly means of transportation are needed and I wish the new Segway Human Transporter, the high-tech electric scooter, success. Its major flaw may be the severity of its accidents, especially with automobiles. Since the Segway will operate in pedestrian spaces, I would support more police sting operations like the recent one in Panorama City, which caught 28 motorists in four hours who failed to yield to pedestrians. Sting operations such as those could save the lives of pedestrians in Orange County. They could be set up in cities such as Santa Ana, which historically has had a high number of pedestrian fatalities.
