* Re “In China, 7 Brides for 14 Brothers,” Feb. 14: I am not going to lie. I feel contempt toward cultures that place a lesser value on female children and potential female children. For that reason, it pleases me to think that parents who use selective abortion to ensure the birth of a son, or who might neglect, abuse, otherwise discount or even kill their girls, face a future devoid of the joy and satisfaction of grandchildren.
