LACCD Will Get Out Tax-Credit Message
The Los Angeles Community Development Department on Wednesday will roll out a campaign to educate low-wage workers and businesses with eligible employees about the federal earned income tax credit. The credit channels up to $3,888 to eligible workers who earn less than $31,152. But about half the workers in Los Angeles who qualify for the credit don’t take advantage of it. If participation were increased to 65%, city worker income would grow by $35 million. The CDD is joining forces with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to publicize the credit on buses throughout the city before tax day. The department also has created an information hotline, at (800) 601-5552, and a Web site, at https://www2.eitc-la.com.
