While I agree that San Bernardino City Atty. James Penman was out of line to use city stationery to write what he did, Valente Duran, when complaining, should have picked his words somewhat more carefully. I, too, am foreign-born, and I would have handled the situation somewhat differently. I would have complained all right, but without making any reference to how things used to be in the old country. That’s tactless and pointless. How things used to be in Mexico is totally irrelevant.
Duran, it seems, has brought this whole PR fiasco on himself. If he had only used his brains before speaking out, this altercation could have been avoided.
