Highland Wrestlers Continue Golden Rule in 46-19 Victory

Winning 10 of 14 weight classes, Highland High clinched at least a share of its ninth consecutive Golden League wrestling title with a 46-19 victory over Quartz Hill on Wednesday at Highland.
Mike Estrada (119 pounds), Greg Sturdyvin (140), Chris Culotta (152) and Dustin Alleman (145) won matches for Highland (20-6, 4-0 in league matches), which is 43-0 since joining the Golden League in 1992.
Highland trailed, 6-0, but Brendan Lang tied the match by pinning Levi Llarena in 1:14.
Estrada gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with a 16-6 decision over Brian Williams.
Chris Newling of Quartz Hill, who is 26-6 with 23 pins, scored on a takedown with eight seconds left for a 5-3 victory over Jose Shaw in the 152-pound bout.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Chaminade 9, Alemany 0--Kim Taylor scored five goals and tied the school career record of 60 in a Mission League game at Chaminade.
Taylor also had three assists for Chaminade (12-4-2, 4-0), ranked No. 6 in the region.
Thousand Oaks 4, Agoura 1--Mara Wering, Kaitlyn Kelly, Kelley Hess and Tasha Van Dixhorn scored at Moorpark College to help the Lancers (10-5-2, 5-2) avenge one of its two Marmonte League losses.
Kelly Kaufman scored in the 77th minute for Agoura.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Harvard-Westlake 2, Crespi 1--Andrew Felder headed in the winning goal off an indirect free kick with five minutes left in a Mission League game at Crespi.
Felder scored in the 15th minute and goalie Chris Carlson had 20 saves for Harvard-Westlake (10-7-4, 2-4).
Simi Valley 5, Moorpark 1--Luke Ollett scored three goals in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley (11-6-3, 5-1-1).
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Agoura 57, Thousand Oaks 48--Jennifer Lacy scored 12 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter for the Chargers (15-7, 5-3) in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.
Lisa Kennedy scored 12 points for Thousand Oaks (8-10, 2-5).
Newbury Park 64, Royal 54--Cassandra Harris scored 21 points for the Panthers (15-7, 7-0) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Notre Dame 80, St. Francis 62--Cody Pearson scored 16 points in the second quarter of a Mission League game at Notre Dame.
Pearson finished with 35 for the Knights (17-4, 5-2), ranked No. 5 in the region.
Crespi 79, Harvard-Westlake 61--Reserve forward Derrick O’Dwyer had 24 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots for No. 8-ranked Crespi (14-5, 4-2) in a Mission League game at Crespi.
North Hollywood 57, Hollywood 33--Ken Hauser scored 22 points and Aaron Ruiz added 14 as the No. 9-ranked Huskies (15-4, 4-1) won a Sunset Six League game at North Hollywood.
Chatsworth 78, Birmingham 53--Shayne Berry scored 25 points and the Chancellors (13-7, 4-1) won a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.
Taft 84, El Camino Real 50--Steve Smith had 20 points and six steals for the No. 3 Toreadors (16-4, 5-0) in a West Valley League victory at El Camino Real.
Cleveland 98, Granada Hills 85-- Matthew Awad scored 34 points and the Cavaliers went overtime for their first victory since Andre Chevalier took over last week as coach, in a West Valley League game at Granada Hills.
Eddie Degerman had 28 points, 18 rebounds and five steals for Granada Hills (8-12, 2-3).
Sylmar 94, Reseda 65--Earnest Williams had 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for the Spartans in a Valley Mission League victory at Sylmar.
The Spartans (10-9, 5-0) outscored Reseda, 31-8, in the second quarter.
Simi Valley 67, Moorpark 55--Jered Weaver scored 19 points to lead the Pioneers in a Marmonte League victory at Simi Valley.
Nicholas Grandchamp took three charges for Simi Valley (16-6, 5-3), giving him a school-record 37 this season.
Ryan Bradshaw had 15 points and Dustin Villepigue added 14 for the Pioneers.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Royal 9, Westlake 0--Jennifer Nantroup had three goals, three assists and five steals for Royal in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Nantroup has 90 steals in 23 games for the Highlanders (17-6, 5-1), who are ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section Division II poll.
Royal was without leading scorer Carrie Karamas, who has scored 55 goals. She had the flu.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Glendale 101, West L.A. 76--Mark Walters scored 22 points and center Tim Taylor added 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Vaqueros (16-9, 3-3) in a Western State Conference Southern Division victory at Glendale.
Valley 91, Santa Monica 85--Song Cun scored 24 points for the Monarchs (16-10, 5-1), who overcame an 11-point halftime deficit in a WSC Southern Division game at Valley.
