Costly Caffeine

So, dot-commers are spending $1.99 for 8.3 ounces of “energy” (“Red Bull’s Buzz Rides Tech Bust,” July 4). That works out to roughly 24 cents per ounce, or over $30 per gallon. Now, that’s economical. (One hopes they aren’t complaining about $2-per-gallon gasoline prices--that must sound like a bargain in comparison.) And this is for a drink with less than half the caffeine content of coffee.
If P.T. Barnum were alive today he might have said, “There’s a Red Bull drinker born every minute.”
