Rio Schools Performance

In response to the July 3 article “Kids, Gym Sit Idle as Bureaucrats Quarrel”:
Seven years ago, when Supt. (Yolanda) Benitez started her tenure with the Rio school district, it was one of the lowest academically performing districts in the county. Today our school district remains a low-performing district with two schools (Rio Del Valley and Rio Plaza) qualifying for immediate intervention through the State Underperforming Schools Program. Have we gone in the wrong direction?
Supt. Benitez’s comment in the article that she is in the “business of educating kids” is hard to believe.
Seven years is more than enough time to prove oneself and bring our test scores to a respectable level.
It’s time for our governing board to reevaluate the superintendent’s position and make a change. As a community, we should no longer have to read articles that state that our school district drops the ball and continually plans badly.
