28 Killed in Attacks on Islamic Guerrillas

Indian troops stepped up attacks on Islamic guerrillas in Kashmir, and renewed fighting killed at least 28 combatants, police said.
The army and police raided a guerrilla hide-out 115 miles north of Jammu, killing 10 rebels, police said, adding that those killed belonged to a Pakistan-based militant group.
Another clash was reported in the village of Hanger, where rebels hiding in a house opened fire as soldiers cordoned off the area, police said. At least six militants and one soldier were killed, police said. At least 11 militants and soldiers died in other clashes Wednesday, police said.
