Ferrets Get to Eat Imported Prairie Dogs

A colony of prairie dogs that must be removed from an Arapahoe County, Colo., development site will be shipped to Arizona and fed to black-footed ferrets.
Kaiser Permanente is building an assisted-living facility on the site and says it could not find a place to relocate the 500 prairie dogs and the solution is better than just exterminating them.
“There is no one taking prairie dogs right now,” Kaiser spokesman Steve Krizman said. “And we were told we wouldn’t see any openings for eight to 12 months.”
The black-footed ferret is among the most endangered mammals in North America and feeds solely on prairie dogs.
