CSUCI Gets $1 Million for Children’s Program

Cal State University Channel Islands will use a $1-million grant for a think tank that will evaluate the effectiveness of child development programs in Ventura County.
Funded with Proposition 10 tobacco tax dollars, the new created Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Development will also provide training for preschool providers, identify areas where school readiness can be improved and create partnerships with academic and health agencies.
Ventura County receives about $11.7 million annually in tobacco tax revenue. The Ventura County Children and Families First Commission decides who gets the money and awarded the grant to CSUCI this month.
