A vehicle occupied by an elderly couple was broadsided on Sunday at Chapman and North Woods avenues in Fullerton, and the wife was seriously injured, police said.
Their car was sent into a signal box, knocking out power at the intersection, police said.
Hillis Maxey, 80, and his wife, Ethel, 79, were westbound on Chapman Avenue about 1:20 p.m., according to Fullerton police.
As the couple turned left toward Woods Avenue at a green light, their car was hit by an eastbound car going about 35 mph. The driver, Codruta Giurgean, 31, lives in La Mirada, according to police.
Ethel Maxey suffered serious internal injuries and remains hospitalized at UCI Medical Center in Orange, police said.
Giurgean and a passenger in her car suffered minor injuries but declined hospitalization, police said.
