A 50-year-old woman’s smoking may have started a fire that badly burned her early Sunday evening and damaged her room at a convalescent home, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The woman suffered second- and third-degree burns over 60% of her body, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. She was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. She was expected to be transferred Sunday night to UC-Irvine Medical Center.
The fire was reported just before 6:30 p.m. The woman’s room was the only unit damaged at Good Shepherd Convalescent Center in the 11500 block of Kagel Canyon Street, Wells said. No one else was injured.
