Jane Chambers’ play “Last Summer at Bluefish Cove” is about a group of lesbian friends and lovers who vacation each year at the same idyllic Long Island beach colony. First staged in 1980, it is not an exercise in political advocacy, although it does poke fun at one character, a renowned feminist writer who refuses to come out of the closet lest she jeopardize her fame and fortune. Jade jewels, silver, coral and ivory handcrafts by San Francisco artist Pat Tseng are part of the exhibit “Emblems of Ethereal Grace” at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. Jade is the beloved stone that is historically part of Chinese decorative arts. The 50th National Square Dance Convention will fill 21 halls at the Anaheim Convention Center with squares, rounds, contra, Western lines, clogging and other country dances. The four-day event also highlights an educational exhibition program and a fashion and musical show.
