Avlas Powers Kennedy’s 13-3 Victory Over North Hollywood

Phil Avlas hit a home run, two doubles and a sacrifice fly, driving in three runs for Kennedy High in a 13-3 victory over North Hollywood in a San Fernando Valley baseball tournament game at Kennedy.
The game was called in the sixth inning because of the 10-run rule.
Chad Shaw had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in two runs for the Golden Cougars (1-0), defending City champions.
Orocio Delatorre hit a home run for the Huskies (0-1).
Eric Moore (1-0) struck out six and walked two in five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits.
SOFTBALL
Verdugo Hills 14, Eagle Rock 2--Sophomore Jessica McGivney had seven strikeouts and gave up no earned runs for the Dons in a nonleague game at Eagle Rock.
Danielle Burch had four hits, including a double and a triple, four runs batted in and scored once for Verdugo Hills (1-0).
Kennedy 12, Granada Hills 0--Ryane Montes had six strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter for the Golden Cougars at Kennedy.
Kristin Cookson had four hits and five RBIs for Kennedy (1-0).
Village Christian 4, Western Christian 1--Jessica McIntosh struck out nine in five innings and allowed an unearned run for the Crusaders in a nonleague victory at Western Christian.
Alexis Walker hit a leadoff single in the fifth inning and scored the winning run on a double by Dena DePompa.
BOYS’ GOLF
Nordhoff 385, Carpinteria 429, Moorpark 442--Devlin Thomas had four birdies and shot two-over-par 74, and four others shot in the 70s for the Rangers (2-1) in a nonleague victory at Soule Park in Ojai.
St. Bonaventure 371, Santa Paula 442--Ryan Todey shot three-under par on the back nine and finished one-under-par 68 as the Seraphs won at Mountain View Golf Course in Santa Paula.
Jeff Stoll of St. Bonaventure was four-under par on the back nine and finished at three-over 72.
Oak Park 195, Viewpoint 198--Sophomore Matt Little sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-three ninth hole to help the Eagles win at Westlake Golf Course.
Little shot 36 to share medalist honors with Ali Siam of Viewpoint.
BOYS’ TENNIS
South Pasadena 13, Burroughs 5--Freshman Wilson Tseng won two of three singles sets, but the Indians lost at Burbank.
