Post-Coup Leadership Tenders Resignation

Fiji’s military-backed, post-coup government tendered its resignation after a court declared it illegal, leaving the country’s future in the hands of the president and its influential Great Council of Chiefs.
Fiji’s political future now rests with President Josefa Iloilo and the council, which consists of traditional indigenous rulers, who meet today. The council appoints the president and vice president.
