Collective Denial

Right on to Howard Rosenberg for pointing out our society’s hypocrisy when it comes to animals (“Death Be Not Shown, at Least Not on CBS,” Feb. 23)! Who are we protecting when we sanitize the process of slaughter? Certainly not the animal. Its pain was not minimized just because we didn’t see it.
If CBS really feels the need to kill a pig for ratings, then honor the creature enough to show how it really died. That would meet Edward R. Murrow’s standard and might snap us out of our collective denial about how meat really gets to our plate.
