Address in Spanish

I was horrified to hear that President Bush delivered a part of his weekly radio broadcast in Spanish and will continue to do so (May 6). As a teacher of English as a second language, what message does this send to our citizens who speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Armenian, Russian, Arabic, Korean, Native American languages and the more than 100 other languages spoken in this country? We need to maintain one unifying language, and that language, by quirk of history, is English. I thought e pluribus unum meant one out of many, not many out of one.
