An ally of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic was found beaten to death in her Belgrade apartment, media reported.
Initial police findings indicated that Klara Mandic, 57, the founder of the Milosevic-backed Serbian-Jewish Friendship Society, was killed during a robbery attempt and that her apartment was set on fire, the Politika daily reported.
Mandic was also close to Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic. He and Milosevic are two of the Balkans’ top war crimes suspects.
There was no sign of a break-in. Police did not say why they thought it was a robbery attempt.
