Property Owners Pass Annual Fee for Parks

Property owners have passed an assessment expected to raise $1.2 million annually for park development and maintenance, according to Conejo Valley Recreation and Park District officials.

Results from the mail-in election, which began in March, were announced at the district’s board meeting Thursday. About 38% of the 44,389 ballots mailed were returned. Of those received, 65.3% voted “yes,” said Tex Ward, park district general manager.

The fee, $25 a year for the average single-family home, will be imposed beginning in 2002. Businesses, to be charged based on square footage, could pay as much as $500 annually.
