‘Bucko’ Shaw; O.C. Football All-Star, Coach

David “Bucko” Shaw, an Orange County high school all-star football player and coach, died Sunday of liver cancer. He was 44.
Shaw was a Times’ all-county football player for Newport Harbor High in 1974, the season he returned an interception more than 100 yards for a touchdown against Loara. He went on to play at Menlo College, then returned to Orange County to coach varsity football at Newport Harbor and Estancia.
Memorial services will begin at 1:30 today at Lighthouse Coastal Community Church in Costa Mesa. Shaw is survived by his parents, Bob and Dewey, his brother Bob and sisters Sandy and Karen.
