Time to Enlighten a Guy From Denver
Regarding the comments from Curt Todd of Denver about King fans [May 12], I believe a few rebuttal points are in order.
First, that the Kings were, in the end, outgunned by the superior talent of the Avalanche was true. But out-coached? Not even close.
With respect to Rob Blake, yes, he was a lifelong King who consistently played hard for what was generally a mediocre franchise during his tenure. However, regardless of management’s mishandling of the situation, Blake is not a $10-million player. That said, King fans had every right to react to a guy they perceived as asking for too much.
As for the enlightened Mr. Todd’s perception of Kings fans and Southern California in general, put your National Enquirers away, sports fans. We’re not all whacked-out actors, musicians, commune dwellers, mystics or all of the above. Sorry to disappoint you, but most of us out here on the Coast are just 8-to-5ers like much of the rest of the country.
