Sylmar 14, Gardena 3--In a game that was decided on three plays, Daniel Burney’s 97-yard run proved fatal to Gardena’s hopes of upsetting the host Spartans.
With Gardena (5-5) holding a 3-0 lead, the Panthers were on the Sylmar one-yard line when fullback Jason Franklin fumbled and the Spartans recovered. From there, Gardena saw its hopes dashed with Burney’s run giving Sylmar (8-2) a 7-3 lead.
One series later, Marcus Saul of Gardena was stripped of the ball on a punt return and Sylmar marched in from the six-yard line.
