Dons Run Right Past Claremont

Claremont Coach Mike Collins worried all week about whether his team could keep up with the speed of Dominguez.
On Friday his worst fears were realized. The host Dons ran away from the Wolfpack and rolled to an easy 55-27 victory before and estimated 3,000 at Dominguez.
The Dons (7-4) earned their sixth consecutive win and will travel to San Clemente for a second-round game. Claremont finished 8-3.
Dominguez took a 20-0 lead, thanks to quarterback Justin Wyatt. On the game’s third play he and receiver Jason President combined on a 70-yard touchdown pass. Wyatt then added two rushing touchdowns--a three-yard run to end a seven-play, 97-yard drive, and a 50-yard scoring burst.
The Wolfpack came alive in the second quarter to make a game of it. Quarterback Ryan Stone floated a 42-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Castillo, and tailback Tristan Walker added a one-yard scoring run to narrow the gap to 20-14.
But with 1:54 left in the half, Dominguez linebacker Eric Wright recovered a fumble in midair at the Claremont four-yard line, and ran into the end zone to give the Dons a 26-14 halftime lead.
Wyatt passed for 129 yards and rushed for 86, including a third touchdown on a 19-yard run in the third quarter.
“We had it all going tonight,” Don Coach Willie Donnerson said.
