No Link to Attacks

Re “None Jailed Appear Linked to Attacks,” Nov. 16: Your article states, “Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft has emphasized that the key goal of the investigation is the prevention of other attacks. And, authorities say, though they have provided no evidence, the arrests may have thwarted other terrorist plots.” What marvelous logic! I’d never have thought of that. But on that line I do have two further suggestions for Ashcroft.
1. If arresting 1,200 people may have thwarted other terrorist plots, why not arrest 12 million and thwart all terrorist plots?
2. Instead of wasting taxpayer dollars by investigating the arrested, why not just throw them in a lake and say those who surface are the guilty ones? It worked in New England. A witch hasn’t been sighted in centuries.
