CIF Honors Athletes for Leadership Roles

A number of Southern California athletes were finalists in the fall CIF Spirit of Sport awards competition.
The award recognizes student-athletes for their leadership roles at their schools and in their communities.
Among the boys’ finalists were Ben Rotter (Arcadia, cross-country), Kevin Scott (Lancaster Desert Christian, cross-country), David Shrekenhamer (Redlands, football), Chad Slapnicka (L.A. Loyola, football) and Matt York (Goleta Dos Pueblos, football).
The girls’ finalists included Lisa Bruich (La Canada Flintridge Sacred Heart, cross-country), Christina Halverson (Banning, tennis), Ruby Moreno (Covina Charter Oak, cross-country) and Ashley Plant (Whittier Christian, cross-country).
The winners were Abraham Honono (water polo) and Kate Branson (cross-country) of Chula Vista Bonita Vista.
