The New York Stock Exchange said its president, William Johnston, will retire at year-end. He will be replaced by Robert Britz and Catherine Kinney, who will share the jobs of president and chief operating officer. Britz, 50, and Kinney, 49, are both group executive vice presidents who have been with the NYSE since the early 1970s. Johnston, 62, has been president of the Big Board since July 1996.
