Nation Agrees to Stop Seizing Whites’ Farms

Zimbabwe agreed to stop the occupation of white-owned farms after coming under increasing pressure from Britain and fellow African nations to end more than a year of violent land conflicts.

The southern African country committed itself to “restore the rule of law to the process of land reform,” Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry said in a communique after a day of talks by foreign ministers from Britain and its former colonies.

The talks saw African leaders for the first time add their condemnation to that of Britain and other European nations over violence surrounding Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s land-redistribution program.
