IRA Scraps More Arms in Boost to Peace Deal

From Times Wire Reports

The Irish Republican Army has given up more guns and explosives in a secret ceremony, weapons inspectors said.

The widely expected move bolstered the key achievement of Northern Ireland’s 1998 peace accord: a Catholic-Protestant government that includes the outlawed IRA’s Sinn Fein party.

Northern Ireland government leader David Trimble welcomed the move as evidence that the group would gradually surrender its entire arsenal of stockpiled weapons.
