Eric Weinberger suggests for the New York City memorial readings Sept. 11 something like an oration from the Greek historian Thucydides on sacrifice and valor (Commentary, Aug. 14).
Here’s another apt line from Thucydides: “What is history? Greeks killing Greeks.” This might resonate too.
