Pacific Symphony to Start With a Bang

The Pacific Symphony will launch its summer series at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre with its traditional July 4 program with fireworks. Guest conductor Richard Kaufman will lead the orchestra in a big-band swing program with the vocal group Five by Design. The program will also include Sousa marches.
The season will continue:
* July 20: Carl St.Clair, conductor; Arianna Goldina and Remy Loumbrozo, piano duo; Pacific Chorale and soloists to be announced: Mozart’s Concerto No. 10 in E-flat for two pianos; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
* Aug. 10: St.Clair, conductor; Alain Lefevre, piano; Kishna Davis, soprano: Gershwin program, including Overture to “Strike Up the Band,” Concerto in F, songs.
* Aug. 24: George Daugherty, conductor; Looney Tune Cartoons (with Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Wile E. Coyote, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and the Road Runner: “The Ride of the Valkyries” from Wagner’s “Die Walkure”; Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2; Strauss’ “The Blue Danube” waltz; “Dance of the Comedians” from Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride”; Overture to Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville.” Fireworks.
* Sept. 14: Mark Mandarano, conductor; Jennifer Koh, violin: Tchaikovsky program, including “Marche Slave,” Violin Concerto in D, excerpts from “The Sleeping Beauty, “1812” Overture. Fireworks.
