Cablevision Systems Corp., the biggest cable-television operator in metropolitan New York and the owner of Madison Square Garden, had a fourth-quarter loss on higher costs and falling ticket sales.
The loss was $281.6 million, or $1.57 a Cablevision NY Group share, contrasted with net income of $556.6 million, or $3.29, a year ago, when it had a gain from a cable-system sale.
Costs are rising as the Bethpage, N.Y.-based company upgrades its systems for digital TV with hundreds of channels.
