Escapee Is Convicted of Killing Policeman

The second member of a jailbreak gang to go on trial in the killing of a lawman was convicted of gunning down a suburban Dallas officer during a sporting goods store robbery on Christmas Eve 2000.
Donald Newbury was convicted of capital murder and faces either the death penalty or life without parole. The sentencing phase starts next week.
The ringleader of the December 2000 prison break, George Rivas, was convicted in August and sentenced to die for the cop killing.
