Rancher Leaves Property to Conservation Group

A New Mexico rancher who died of cancer this spring has left his entire 135,000-acre ranch to the Montana-based Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the conservation group said.
Rich Lane, the foundation’s president and chief executive officer, said the gift, valued at more than $21.5 million, is the largest the foundation has ever received.
Bob Torstenson, a retired businessman from Illinois, left his Double H ranch in west-central New Mexico to the foundation, along with another $4 million to maintain and operate it in the future. The ranch is appraised at $17.5 million.
