Search Focuses on Desert in Smart Kidnapping

Police investigating the kidnapping of a Utah girl six weeks ago have urged volunteers to search two counties in the remote Utah desert south of Salt Lake City, an uncle of the girl said.
Elizabeth Smart, 14, was kidnapped on June 5 at gunpoint from her bedroom at her family’s million-dollar home. A former handyman, Richard Albert Ricci, 48, has been a possible suspect in the girl’s disappearance but has not been officially charged in the case, police have said.
“A vehicle meeting the description of Ricci’s vehicle was seen in that area the week of the abduction,” David Smart told reporters.
