Six men were killed and nine police officers injured when a police convoy carrying suspects linked to a deadly church attack came under fire in eastern Pakistan, police and medical sources said.
The convoy was carrying four men suspected of carrying out the October massacre of 15 Christians and a Muslim at a church in Bahawalpur.
As the suspects were being driven to arms and ammunition stocks that they said they had hidden, four gunmen, apparently linked to those being held, began firing at the police vehicles near Bahawalpur. The suspects and two of the gunmen were killed in the cross-fire, police said. The other gunmen escaped.
