City Will Force Sale of Property for RiverPark

Oxnard has begun eminent domain proceedings to buy 1.4 acres necessary for the proposed $750-million RiverPark development.
City officials said negotiations with the owners of several parcels off El Rio Drive west of Colonia Avenue have not been successful.
The land is necessary to further the RiverPark development, said Curtis Cannon, Oxnard’s community development director.
Through eminent domain, the land would be purchased at fair market value. However, Eddie Fischer, an owner of the parcels, said the land’s value has increased because of the proposed development.
