N.D. Vote on Privacy Hailed

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota’s overwhelming vote to toss out a state law that lets banks sell customer information without written permission won widespread praise Wednesday from privacy advocates.
Unofficial results showed 73% of voters backed the repeal in the nation’s first statewide vote on financial privacy.
“I think this is a huge result,” said Evan Hendricks, publisher of Privacy Times, a Washington newsletter.
“Politically, this is a shot that is going to be heard around the world.”
