No Olympic Spirit

Re “2002 Olympics ‘Lights the Fire Within,’ ” letter, Feb. 28: Here is how I see the Olympics: a colossal waste of time, energy and money that has everything to do with political posturing, medal counts, flag-waving and profit and almost nothing to do with the spirit of amateur athletic competition. I wonder how many amateur hockey players “after years of training and sacrifice” sat home and watched the games on television?
