Re “PUC Pick Could Face Conflicts,” March 9: I have known Michael Peevey for over 25 years. I have been on the opposite side of him on many environmental and energy issues. However, I can state unequivocally that Peevey is intelligent, honest, direct and fair and is a person of integrity.
The attacks on him from consumer and environmental groups are unfounded and, I must assume, are being made by people who do not know him. Peevey is eminently qualified to be an impartial member of the California Public Utilities Commission. I applaud Gov. Gray Davis’ selection of Peevey; Californians can be assured he will always act in the public interest.
